Vectors are any living creature which either directly or indirectly via microorganisms which it carries, can transmit diseases to man. Vectors are ordinarily but not exclusively rodents, insects and vermin. Vectors can transmit diseases such as:
- West Nile Virus, Lacrosse Encephalitis & Eastern Equine Encephalitis
In an effort to control the spread of vector-borne diseases, through control of insect breeding areas and elimination of rodent harborage conditions, the Nicholas County Board of Health promulgated the Nicholas County Vector Control Regulation (pamphlet copy) according to W.Va. Code § 16-2-11(b)(3). Failure to comply with this regulation is punishable by law.
